Now let's understand what Barre Chords are all about.

These types of chords use a single finger - usually the index finger of your fretting hand to hold down all the strings...so that's where the name comes from - because of this barring of the strings.

 

 

Try to do like the illustration above...

  1. Stick out your index finger (of the fretting-hand)

  2. Press in onto the fretboard in such a way that it holds down all the strings

  3. Now strike the strings with your picking or strumming-hand

Don't worry if you find this hard - every beginner does. It'll get easier with a little practice. Just plant the thumb (of your fretting hand) on the back of the guitar's neck.
