The locrian scale is almost NEVER used in song construction. Try and see for yourself!

Suppose I wanted to play a song in the key of C-Locrian, I'll first look under the "Locrian" column for C...and then write out the C-Locrian scale:

C - C# - D# - F - F# - G# - A#

Next I'll make a list of all chords in this scale...

C C# D# F F# G# A#

(Minor - Dim5)

(Major)

(Minor)

(Minor)

(Major)

(Major - Dom7)

(Minor)

I II III IV V VI VII

So we have determined that in the key of C-Locrian, we have the following chords:

  • C dim
  • C# major
  • D# minor
  • F minor
  • F# major
  • G# dom7
  • A# minor

Now just use any chord progression. Lets use the same chord progression that we used in previous chapters:

I - III - IV - I - IV - I - V - I

This will give us...

Cdim - D#minor - Fminor - Cdim - Fminor - Cdim - F#major - Cdim

AND THERE IS YOUR SONG IN THE KEY OF C-LOCRIAN!!!

Try soloing over it by using the C locrian scale!
