Power Chord Pattern#3: 3rd String Root

This is the third pattern that we're going to learn. It is a seldom used pattern that is a little harder to play than the previous patterns - but not by that much.

In our previous power chord patterns we saw that their root notes were on the lowest played string.

In this pattern however, the root note is actually not on the lowest string (the D string).

It's on the G string!

Remember not to strike the strings marked with with X's...only strike the strings marked with numbers.

This power chord is in reality simply an extension of the 5th-string root power chord. The 3 red dots in the picture clearly demonstrate this.
The power-chord gets its name depending on the name if the fret that the root note falls on.

In the picture to the left, the root note in on the third fret of the G string.

So, what is the name of the note on the third fret of the G string?

A#

Therefore the note you see to the left is an A# power-chord.
